The Canadian Arctic covers approximately 40% of Canada, with less than 1% of Canada’s population; most of them are indigenous people - the Inuit. My research investigates their traditional lifestyle in the Arctic, how these cultures were assimilated through European settler colonialism, and how Inuit life is still systematically undermined today.
Research on the loss of traditional stories, Canada’s shameful history of colonization, and the cultural genocide that Inuit people are still enduring have led to the design of the Memorial Museum of Inuit History. This project is situated in the capital city, Ottawa, in an attempt to confront citizens with these discourses, questioning the complicated identity of this nation.
